The first house Porter Builders constructed was 1,600 square feet and located on the North east side of Torch Lake in 1992. Ed and his family lived in that house until it was sold in 1994. During this time, several small construction projects such as remodels, additions, maintenance requests were completed.

In 1994, Porter Builders acquired two small lakefront lots on Torch Lake and secured backing from its bank to build two spec houses. One spec house sold immediately and was finished for the buyer. The second spec house was started in 1995, and again, sold immediately.

Since 1995, Porter Builders has acquired Torch Lake waterfront properties and constructed and sold over 30 spec houses.

Several clients ask to have property located for them so a home of their dreams can be built by Porter Builders. Porter Builders are always willing to assist in locating lakefront property for clients, and as always, at no charge to them.

As the company grew, in 2005, Porter Builders had 60 employees and 13 homes under construction on or around Torch Lake. As the building market waned in 2007-2008, Porter Builders maintained enough work to keep a sizable crew employed to satisfy their client’s needs.

At present, Porter Builders is starting and completing 7-8 new homes, sizable additions and remodels per year. In the years of business, Porter Builders has constructed over 350 homes, additions and remodel projects in Antrim County.
